Quentin Chong is a master of martial
arts. His record of 19 fights (18 wins by knock-out & 1 loss)
has made him one of the most devastating fighters in the world
today. "Time waits for no one" is the credo by which he lives and
teaches. It is testimony to his personal and martial arts
success. However, the road to the top has been a difficult one.
This is Quentin Chong's life story. It is the journey of the
Dragon.
Quentin Chong was born in Botswana, Gaborone and raised in Cape
Town. As a schoolboy, he was chosen last for sports and ridiculed
by his peers. Life for the young Chong was difficult. He grew up in
a racially segregated country amidst violence and turmoil. This was
an important experience in his life. It led him to defy mediocrity
through studying the martial arts. As a young man, Quentin went to
Hong Kong. He trained Kung Fu under Masters Shang Yu Xiang, Liang
Dong Sheng and Samuel Kwok. His teachers were the most decorated
Kung Fu practitioners in the world. They instructed the Chinese
Military and were Kung Fu champions in their respective
disciplines. Consequently, Chong learned from the best and quickly
became one of the rising talents in Kung Fu. He achieved
recognition throughout the world and became a Kung Fu master
(Sifu). Quentin Chong mastered in Wingchun, Yang form
Tai Chi, Kamla/Chinna and Sanda/Sanshou.
With his newfound talent, Quentin became a prominent figure in
South Africa, and was well known in the 'streets and night club
world' for his fighting ability. This led to him to acquiring
the name 'DRAGON'. The name was given to him by the street kids
that he taught. There is great irony in Chong's title. In
Western culture, a dragon is the symbol of strength and ferocity.
However, in Eastern tradition, the dragon is a symbol of humility
and compassion. Its strength and hidden powers is a hidden quality
and it is for this reason that the dragon is the most dominant
entity in Chinese culture. Chong acquired this title because
westerners saw him fight with tremendous strength and power.
However, they fail to realise, that he fought on the streets to
defend street children and people of the streets. His power
was concealed at all times and was only used to propagate humility
and compassion. Therefore, Chong may have been called a dragon for
his fighting ability. However, it was his humility and compassion
that truly demonstrated the nature of the dragon. It is for this
reason that the street children of Cape Town know and address Chong
as the 'DRAGON'.
Quentin Chong opened a security company. Initially, his business
was small and catered for local events. However, the reputation of
Chong as Cape Towns fighting 'dragon' grew. Consequently, his
business expanded in a similar fashion. After a brief period of
time, Chong had successfully established himself in the security
industry. His clients consisted of the top local and international
celebrities like Wesley Snipes & Steven Seagal etc. These
include ex-members from the S.A.S (U.K), ex- South African and
American S.W.A.T team operatives.
Despite his success in security, Quentin returned to the martial
arts. He opened a small Kung Fu school in his garage. It was the
original Dragon Power kung-fu Kwoon. He taught a group of young
students, which grew steadily. Invariably, teaching became his
focus. Chong's fighting skill and Eastern understanding of the
martial arts gained him great popularity. However, Chong was not
content with teaching alone. He hungered for the fight. He sought
to find a competition, which incorporated all aspects of fighting.
At the time, the only discipline that allowed for freestyle
striking was the Muaythai. This ancient art originated from
Thailand thousands of years ago. It has been known as the most
brutal ring sport on earth because its combatants are allowed to
strike with knees and elbows.
Chong left South Africa and once again went to the East. He
trained in Thailand under Manop Masweichen (Nong). This heavy
weight Champion recognised Chong's talent. After a brief period of
time, he entered Quentin in professional competitions. Chong was a
natural fighter, and quickly rose up the competitive rankings. His
speed and power overcame many opponents. Gradually, he built an
impressive name and record.

After Fighting for some time and travelling to Thailand, Quentin
returned home. His experiences overseas changed his perspective on
the martial arts. He lived by the motto 'no way, no style, no
limit'. He believed that there was no single and infallible way to
practice martial arts. Rather, a martial art in
volves the natural flow of energy. One should be open to all styles and focus on using any technique that works to achieve the best result. Using this ideology, Quentin re-opened a school in a business complex in Milnerton, Cape Town. His students became extremely proficient in the martial arts. News spread of his dynamic fighting system, and his martial arts school grew rapidly. Chong rented bigger premises in Green point to accommodate the influx of students. He taught both Muaythai and Kung Fu and his school became one of the most successful in South Africa.
After some time, the reputation of Chong's
fighting
ability proceeded itself. Quentin was challenged to a World
Muaythai Title fight in Thailand. This was a formidable task,
because very few westerners are considered legitimate contenders
for Muaythai titles. In July 2001, Quentin Chong faced Saroonsak
for the super middleweight Muaythai World Title. The odds were
heavily stacked against Quentin. He was fighting in Thailand
amongst the champion's most avid supporters. However, Chong shocked
the martial arts world. He scored a knock out in the first round
with a crushing right hand punch. News spread of his uncanny
victory. Chong was launched from the status of a rogue contender to
the world champion.
Quentin Chong returned to South Africa as the world Muaythai
Champion. He made history as the first South African to ever hold
such a title. In 2002, Chong staged his world title defence in Cape
Town. He spent months preparing for his fight with the help of his
brother Winston. Winston Chong is also an accomplished fighter. He
currently holds a world 'superfight' title and numerous power
lifting records. Chong's opponent for the fight was the revered
Nokwit Davis. This Thai legend is one of the most feared fighters
in the world. His fight record comprises of over 400 hundred
fights, 7 championship belts and hundreds of knockouts. Chong was
once again the underdog. The fight started evenly, but Chong
clenched a victory with a right hand punch in the third round. This
became the 'dragons' signature move. It was the last fight in
Nokwits prolific career. He retired shortly after.
Chong's victories culminated in an unprecedented success in South
Africa. He has become a national sports hero who regularly appears
on television. Moreover, he is one of the few martial arts stars to
emerge from South Africa. He has acted as the villain in the Jean
Claude Van Damme movie, "Wake Of Death" (2003). Moreover, Chong has
starred in "Action Star" with Vinnie Jones, Pat Morita (Mr Miyagi
from Karate Kid) and Tony Shiena & Death Race. His
celebrity status has manifested in numerous commercial endorsements
and modelling contracts. He is regularly featured in G.Q and Sports
Illustrated, Cosmopolitan, F.H.M, Top Billing magazines, etc. He
also endorses Hyundai automobiles, Braun Razors, Motorola,
Nokia and. He has released an instructional Muaythai
series and Ultimate Muaythai instructional book.
In 2005, Quentin and Steven Seagal visited the Red Cross
hospital and the Khayelitsha orphan homes as the official
representatives of martial arts in South Africa. There they formed
strong bonds with the kids infected with HIV/AIDS.
Today, Quentin Chong in partnership with his brother Winston Chong
teaches from his Dragon Power Muaythai MMA & Fitness Centre in
Cape Town. It is one of the most advanced fighting centres in the
world. It includes numerous boxing rings as well as a fully
equipped weights and fitness area. Quentin personally trains the
top amateur and professional fighters, security personnel,
celebrities and models. He regularly takes his top fighters to the
Far East, and many of them have achieved impressive victories.

Quentin's conduct regularly demonstrates the humility of the
'dragon'. He remains in constant contact with his teachers. He
always speaks of them with the greatest deference and respect. This
attitude has percolated amongst his own students. All of them hold
master Chong in the highest regard. Their hours of dedication to
training does not only reflect commitment to the martial arts. It
also exemplifies the respect and admiration they have for their
teacher. Quentin has used his success to help those less fortunate
than himself. He donates equipment and funds for martial arts in
underprivileged areas. He is also an avid spokesperson against
domestic violence. He gives regular seminars on self-defence and
often appears in public drives to combat the abuse of women and
children.
The journey of the dragon is not over. Quentin Chong is prepared
for his 'final fight'. Chong retired after his victory and aims to
further dedicate himself to teaching. Quentin will undoubtedly be
remembered for his charismatic fighting ability. However, he will
be equally remembered for his humility and compassion. These
qualities are reflected in the respect he shows for his teachers
and his efforts to help those around him. In so doing, Quentin
Chong exemplifies a balance between strength and humility. It
is for this reason that he will be known and remembered as the true
'dragon'.
Quentin Chong is the founder and also responsible for bringing the first Muaythai fights to South Africa.
After his dramatic victory and his debut in the ring, he began to feature in almost every local magazine and newspaper, and international Muaythai magazine. I.e. he also appeared in many well-recognized SA and Thai magazines: GQ, Men's Health, Sports Illustrated, top local newspapers and the international Muaythai magazines. He has also produced a ladies self-dense tape. At present, he is training South African celebrities such as super models, TV presenters, actors and actresses, bodyguards and security personnel.

TEAM DRAGON POWER, as both manager and head coach, to their 5th
IFMA World Championships, held in Bussan, Korea this year.
From previous World Championships the
South African girls' team has been ranked amongst the top 5 female
teams.
The highlights of 2008 for Sifu Chong thus far have
definitely been:
November 8th 2008 Sifu Quentin Chong hosted the event of the
year by making South African History, filling an amphitheatre
of over 3500 viewers. South Africa competed against Australia and
Thailand but took the belt securing South Africa a spot in the
Contender Asia Series 2 house in Malaysia beginning early next
year.
Sifu Quentin Chong not only kicked start the year with a bang but
in style too, by opening the new Dragon Power Muaythai MMA &
Fitness Centre in January 2009. This is no ordinary gym; this
is Dragon Power a World Class Muaythai Fitness Centre.
After hosting the biggest Muaythai event in history of South
Africa in 2008 he put the past to rest and took on the New Year
with a bang by hosting an Electrifying event at Fashion TV Cape
Town.

On the 9th - 17th May the South African Team who consist of
Madeleine Ross (Female Light Welterweight) & Kevin Nkopane Peko
(Male Welterweight) represented South Africa in the Arafura Games
held in Darwin, Australia. The Team won two silver medals,
which is a huge achievement, as this is an indicator of how much
the sport of Muaythai has evolved in South Africa. This shows
that South Africa's Muaythai is at such a high level that they can
easily compete against the world's best athletes and be
triumphant. Since 1991, the Arafura Games have grown into a
leading International sporting competition for the developing
athletes of the Asian Pacific region.
On June 6th 2009 Sifu Quentin Chong once again hosted yet another
World class event, this time at the Grand Arena GrandWest; know as
the Venue of all Venues. The Arena filled with excitement and
anticipation, as crowds waited on the edge of their seats to see
who would be number one. With fifteen fights scheduled, including
one MMA fight and the South African Pro title on hand, the night
was set for absolute awesomeness. All was at stake with the winners
of each Muaythai division going to represent South Africa in
Bangkok, Thailand in the World Championships held in honour of His
Majesty the king of Thailand's 82nd birthday. The host for the
event was the ever entertaining Colin Moss.
Quentin Chong is busy with his comic book; the comic book is about
DRAGON POWER LEGACY that follows the exciting adventures of the
Chong brothers, Quentin (Dragon) and Winston (Tiger) as they search
for the legendary Golden Child.
The Dragon Power Gym is the primary setting of the story. Quentin
and Winston are always working hard to ensure that their students
are in top physical and mental condition to take part in the
various Dragon Power tournaments held throughout the year.
Through it all, the Chong brothers continue to run their business,
while still finding time to deal with attacks directed at the gym,
their students and their friends.
Quentin Chong was invited to Vegas in February 2009 to train Kim
Couture for her up coming fight. Quentin also trained Gina
Carano, Randy Couture, Josh Henns, Frank Trik, JJ Mix, and Robert
Ricedale etc. Quentin been invited once again to go to Vegas
to be part of the Camp and also to train Gina Carano for the
biggest women fight in history against Chris Cyborg as well as
Randy "The Natrual" Couture.
Quentin Chong is not only an Icon but a Legend in South Africa and
wants to take the Sport of Muaythai & MMA and push it to be the
sport in the World.
The Continental African qualifications for the World Martial Arts
games to be held from the 27th of August to the 4th of September
2010 in Beijing, China. Two of the African qualifiers will go on to
fight in the World Martial Arts games.
The World Martial Arts Games will comprise of 13 different martial
arts. Muaythai will be one of these competing martial arts. The
qualifications for the Muaythai division of the World Martial Arts
Games will take a total of 88 Muaythai fighters, spanning across 11
weight categories from 124 IFMA (International Federation of
Muaythai Amateur) member countries.
The exceptional catering and venue made available by GrandWest
really made for a great environment for the event. The fights were
all very high paced, only two of the fights went all the rounds.
Some noticeable highlights was a 10 second K.O. in the MMA fight
with a well timed punch and a electrifying show by Bakhulule Baai
to secure his spot in the WMA Games.
The Female Lightweight African Qualification also ending in a 2nd
round T.K.O. with Madeleine "Madx" Ross coming out victorious and
qualifying into the World Martial Arts Games as both Dragon Power,
South Africa's Representative as well as Africa's
representative.
The Male Light Middleweight African Qualification was the final
and most impressive fight of the night. After the national anthems
were played and had set the scene for what looked like an exciting
match up, Bakhulule Baai representing Dragon Power and South Africa
made his intentions clear with an arrow directed at his opponent
during the Wai Kru. The fight didn't reach a minute long by the
time Bakhulule had finished his opponent with a combination of
punches which had knocked his opponent out a few times before he
was allowed to hit the ground.
In February 2010 Dragon Power Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness
Centre became the product of Mnet Action's hit reality TV show,
"The Way of the Warrior" which was a television first, the show
promised to be a must for all reality fans.
Way of the Warrior gathered a group of 25 to 35-year-old men
giving them the opportunity to train at Dragon Power, South
Africa's premier Muaythai Gym - based in Cape Town.
They were trained by 2 x World Muaythai Champion and their mentor
Sifu Kru Quentin "Dragon" Chong. Through the transformational power
of Martial Arts they became lean, formidable fighting
machines.
But there was a catch; the only way the men could stay in the gym
and take home the amazing prizes was to fight for it. Each
contestant had to use their new-found martial arts skills to fight
their competitors in the ring, for the right to remain in the gym.
Using the Muaythai they have been taught each contestant has to
survive weeks of elimination as they fight for the honor of being
named the Ultimate Warrior. The Warriors learnt the art of Muaythai
on their path towards losing weight and becoming healthier and
stronger than ever before. The contestants all benefited from the
training before and after the show. The aspects of life and culture
that Muaythai brings into the training allow for it to be
sustainable as it becomes a way of life, a way of the
warrior.
If you are a guy who is unhappy with his weight and you want to
transform your life...you can follow the "Way of the

BOSTON, MA - (February 11, 2011) - Sportslifestyle brand PUMA® has partnered with legendary culture brand, Undefeated, to launch the Undefeated (UNDFTD) Collection with PUMA, a special collection centered around one of PUMA's most iconic and celebrated styles: The PUMA Clyde. This long term project will make Undefeated a true design partner with PUMA, designing a collection of PUMA Clydes that will be released beginning in April and throughout 2011 and beyond.

The partnership between PUMA and Undefeated is about pushing
boundaries and refreshing a classic style and icon, The PUMA Clyde.
Undefeated and PUMA explored trends in the marketplace and
collaborated to interpret these fashion and lifestyle nuances into
footwear styles that are inclusive of both brands. The first
release from the collection will be on April 10th followed by
another release on June 10th, and many more throughout 2011 and
beyond. Consumers can expect to see clean lines and a unique
exploration of materials and textures.

"Undefeated pushes the envelope and is a leader in starting and
spotting new trends throughout the sneaker and lifestyle
community," said Jay Piccola, President of PUMA North America.
"This partnership allows us to apply these influences to the most
significant shoe in PUMA's archive, the PUMA Clyde, and make it
new, fresh and appealing to a whole new set of consumers that we
know will adore each and every style."
The PUMA Clyde was chosen for this project not only for its
significance to the PUMA brand, but also to sneaker history and pop
culture. Customized for basketball great and current announcer for
The New York Knicks Walt "Clyde" Frazier in 1973, the Clyde was the
first signature basketball shoe. Built on performance and style, it
immediately became a mainstay on the court and on the street. As a
statement shoe, it was part of the uniform for cultural artists -
DJs, b-boys, musicians and graffiti artists. With its clean and
classic styling, the PUMA Clyde continues to be on-trend today.

"We worked closely with PUMA's design team, and were very
collaborative in every sense of the word," said Eddie Cruz,
Co-Founder of Undefeated. "We shared ideas, brainstormed and pushed
each other on the design language because we really wanted to make
something great together. The end result of the UNDFTD Collection
with PUMA is just that - something great, forward thinking and cool
- and we are excited to build on the momentum of this collection
for seasons to come."
For nearly 10 years Undefeated has been the unofficial voice for
the next generation. With storefronts in Hollywood, Silverlake and
Santa Monica, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Shizuoka and Tokyo,
Japan they are globally recognized as a leader in streetwear and
fashion trends. PUMA and Undefeated first collaborated on a limited
edition pack of PUMA Mids that were released in January 2009. The
shoes were well received throughout the sneaker community and soon
became a sought after style by collectors and style-conscious men
and women. This first project helped to lay the groundwork for the
new Clyde Collection design partnership.
PUMA and Undefeated will celebrate the Clyde Collection in Las
Vegas on February 14th with an exclusive consumer launch event
featuring N.E.R.D. at the House of Blues.

Cape Town, South Africa, January 2011 - PUMA Running is striding
its way into 2011 with a fun, innovative and technologically
advanced range of running shoes-The PUMA Faas Collection. This
collection will be available in stores in South Africa from April
2011.
Faas gets its name from the Jamaican word for fast, and the name
fits. The collection is grounded in performance and features a
biomechanical design technology exclusive to PUMA, called BioRide™,
that provides a naturally responsive ride - helping runners get
into their own rhythm for increased speed and performance.
The innovative BioRide™ technology featured in the Faas shoes
spent years in development. PUMA took a look at some of the fastest
athletes affiliated with the brand and studied their movement, foot
placement and overall running skills. There were three proven and
consistent skills that were identified as critical to top
performance. PUMA translated these elements into three
categories-Rocker, Flex & Groove-that become the cornerstones
of the BioRide™ technology and the Faas shoes.
First, the best runners reduce their amount of time on the ground,
making for faster runs and faster times. The Faas Collection
incorporates a continuous, rocker-shape outsole which provides
smooth touchdown and effortless transition, providing runners with
a natural ride and less time on the ground. Second, they do not
waste motion. 360 degree flex grooves are placed in key areas
throughout the Faas shoes; these flex grooves respond specifically
to how the runner's foot moves, providing a truly unique and
responsive ride. Lastly, these world-renowned athletes are
incredibly aware of the ground, which allows the foot to react
instinctively to keep them stable. The Faas shoes have a horizontal
groove that runs the lateral side of the shoe. Regardless of how a
runner's foot hits the ground, this groove will provide them with
natural stability.
PUMA Running knows every runner is unique and what one runner
needs may not be necessary for another. To help runners find the
best Faas style to suit their needs, PUMA has assigned each style a
number, ranging from 100 to 1000. The lower number models, such as
the Faas 300, have less cushioning and less structure, providing a
lightweight, fast-paced trainer. As the number gets higher,
additional cushioning and structure is added to the shoe. The
higher number shoes, like the Faas 500, are perfect everyday
neutral trainers.
The Faas range from Spring/Summer 2011 features bright, bold
colors with unique overlays and design details for each style. PUMA
Running's new Faas Collection brings the joy back into running with
increased speed and performance, along with some 'check-me-out'
designs.
Key Highlights from the Spring/Summer 2011 Running
Collection
Faas 300 - The Faas 300 is a lightweight style from the Faas Range
that is built for runners who defy convention and speed on a daily
basis. Featuring BioRide technology, minimal cushioning and
structure, and no heel counter, this shoe is for the runners who
are ready to fly. The Faas 300 is stylized with a unique overlay
with cut-out circles, giving the shoe a two-toned and exciting
look. Available as the Faas 300 for men and Faas 300 W for
ladies.
Faas 500 - The Faas 500 incorporate PUMA's new BioRide technology,
giving all runners a naturally responsive ride. Falling right in
the middle of the Faas Range's numerical scale, the Faas 500 has a
complimentary balance of added structure and cushioning to provide
a comfortable run with improved speed and performance. The Faas 500
comes in a number of fun, bright colorways, providing runners a
surefire way to jazz up their wardrobe and their run. The Faas 500
is available for men in South Africa.
